Professor Fukuoka is a director of Catalysis Research Center, Hokkaido University.  This center has very old history in Catalysis Chemistry, Japan.  Late Professor Toshiro Horiuchi was working in this institute, who proposed very important relation called Horiuchi-Polanyi Linear-Free-Energy Relations in reaction rate. 

Professor Fukuoka is one of the pioneers in the experimental study of catalytic transformation of cellulose with transition metals. He will visit us to have discussion about catalytic reaction and theoretical approach to catalysis.
